Tip: If you are returning home on the Cherohala Skyway through Tellico Plains, consider a burger and milkshake stop at the Tellico Beach Drive-In (a local favorite located 25 minutes from the campground). Nestled in the Cherokee National Forest, just minutes from Tellico Plains, Tennessee, is the Indian Boundary Recreation Area and Campground. Time to pack up camp and go home! Enjoy a good campsite breakfast, pack the car, and hit the road. Reading in your hammocks at your site: Doesn’t get much better than that. The Hooper Bald parking area is on the right side of the road where you will conveniently find restrooms, two picnic tables, a 1/4-mile long trailhead to the bald and a kiosk with the known history of these balds. Hooper Bald is about one mile before Huckleberry Knob (mentioned above). The trail has picnic tables along the river for the first mile, and the kids will enjoy skipping rocks and dipping their feet in the ice cold water. (From the campground, go west about 5 miles and find the Bald River Falls turn off-it is clearly marked on the Skyway.) You can view Bald River Falls without leaving your vehicle or hike as long as you’d like on the relatively easy-moderate 5.6 mile Bald River Trail (mostly flat but a few switchbacks).

Located just 22 minutes from the campground, you will find a magnificent 90’ waterfall on Forest Service Road 210 off the Cherohala Parkway. It’s a popular attraction so it will be well marked. It will be on your left after about two miles. Turn left at Santeelah Gap and follow the signs. Directions: Go east on the Cherohala Skyway towards Robbinsville, NC. Joyce Kilmer Forest is a 54 minute drive from the Indian Boundary Campground. Some are more than 400 years old and over 100 feet with circumferences of up to 20 feet! It’s an easy two-mile “figure 8 loop” hike to view these amazing trees. If you are a tree hugger or wondered how the early settlers experienced this part of the forest, it would be worth the drive to see this rare example of an old growth hardwood forest. Tip: For the easiest route around the lake, go left at the trailhead to complete the loop in a clockwise direction. The trailhead is located behind the campground store. The 3.6 mile Lake Loop Trail circles the lake and is a relatively easy and beautiful bike ride crossing several small wooden bridges and zigzagging through rhododendron and hardwoods. The campground roads are practically car-free and offer a fun way for the kids to explore the area.

If at all possible, bring bikes for the whole family-there are no rentals nearby. Enjoy a morning trail run, a family bike ride, or watch the sunrise. Hike or bike the Lake Loop Trail, the only hiking trail found in the campground. Of all the activities described below, I highly recommend hiking or biking the campground Lake Loop Trail, swimming in the lake, and if you have the will to get in your car, take a side trip to Huckleberry Knob on a clear day. And, there are lots of interesting things to do and see in the area. Finally, even though there is no cell service at the campground, Verizon service is available at the first overlook up the Cherohala Skyway, about four miles from the campground.Park the car for two days and be absolutely content hanging out among the beautiful surroundings or seek out additional adventures within an hour’s drive.
#Indian boundary campground registration
Which sites have 50 amps and where they are located isnt determinable from the registration website. But, its a beautiful setting with most sites heavily shaded even though they are very wide and very long. Fourth, most of the sites have 30 amp hookups, but a few have 30 and 50 amp outlets. Third, they use a universal length limit of 26 even though the vast majority of sites can easily accomodate 40 or longer RVs (mines 36 and I had no problem maneuvering the campground roads or getting into the site I reserved). Secondly, there are no pictures of the individual sites. First, the campsites on their map dont register correctly with the roads on the map, making it a little bit difficult to figure out exactly where a site lies on the road network. However,, where you go to make a reservation doesnt treat it very well. This is a first-rate national forest campground.
